MetaMask has integrated Blockaid-powered security alert service for multi-chain wallet users

Cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask has announced the default integration of Blockaid-supported security alert services on multiple chains, ensuring that users automatically receive alerts about potential malicious transactions. This security alert was first launched on the Ethereum mainnet through a plugin wallet at the end of last month and is now available for mobile and plugin wallet users on the following networks: Linea, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Avalanche. It is reported that Blockaid was established in 2022 and provides a set of tools for simulating transactions before execution to protect integrated wallets such as MetaMask and DApps such as OpenSea, Zerion, and Rainbow from phishing and hacking attacks. Last year, the company raised $33 million in funding from Ribbit, Variant, Sequoia, and other companies.

MetaMask had more than 30 million active users in January, approaching a record high

MetaMask has reported that the number of monthly active users has increased by 55% over the past four months, rising from 19 million in September last year to over 30 million in January. MetaMask stated that these numbers are almost in line with the historical high set in January 2022, when the number of monthly active users was 31.7 million.

MetaMask: Bridge users are not affected by this Socket vulnerability incident

MetaMask announced that MetaMask Bridge users are not affected by the Socket vulnerability that occurred today. MetaMask stated that a unique architecture was adopted when designing the cross-chain bridge contract to prevent such attacks. Earlier news reported that the cross-chain protocol Socket was attacked, and funds worth at least $3.3 million were stolen. Hackers used a malicious route to steal user funds from the SocketGateway contract.

Hex Trust, an institutional digital asset custodian, announced the integration of MetaMask, allowing users to access over 17,000 DeFi dApps directly from the Hex Safe dashboard. In addition, the integration also introduces transaction authorization function, enabling users to set precise transaction approval rules. This feature allows users to restrict access to decentralized applications (dApps), optimize DeFi transaction processes, and establish specific transaction rules for designated individuals.

MetaMask: MetaMask Portfolio and SDK users are not at risk

MetaMask stated on X platform that Ledger has resolved the current issue, but currently recommends that users wait for 24 hours before using the Ledger Connect suite to interact with dapps. After investigation, we have confirmed that MetaMask Portfolio and SDK users have never faced any risks. As a precautionary measure, we have temporarily disabled trading on the portfolio for updates.
