Marcus outlined two challenges: offline payment acceptance and reducing the cost of opening channels for small transactions. While solutions are being developed to address these difficulties in the future, he acknowledges that current non-custodial Lightning Network users must face trade-offs. He said, "Frankly, if you want to fully support non-custodial Lightning Network with offline receiving capabilities and make it economically viable, you have to accept some form of compromise on the trustlessness level of the solution." However, Marcus remains optimistic about the future, emphasizing that Bitcoin is poised to become the currency protocol of the internet and achieve widespread adoption.
