Crypto VC Funding Hits 2-year Low, US Firms Still Favorite: Galaxy Research

According to a report, VC investment into crypto firms continued to fall in Q1 2023, representing a decline of over 80% compared to the same period last year. However, the report also noted that the number of deals made had actually increased by nearly 20%, with the gains largely driven by relative gains in pre-seed deal activity. Despite regulatory turbulence in the US, the country still leads in the number of firms raising capital, with US-based companies raising 42.8% of the VC money flowing into crypto in Q1 2023, followed by France at 19.4%. While various statistics and anecdotal evidence suggest crypto firms are leaving the US to find greener pastures, the report found that the US share of crypto VC investment has only fallen by 2.8 percentage points since Q3 2022.
