The University of Glasgow has launched a virtual world platform worth £5.6 million (about $6.9 million) with the support of the UK government. "Museums in the Virtual World" allows users to explore various experiences, including 3D scanning of collections in XR and VR. Project partners include the learning platform Edify, Scottish Historic Environment, and the National Museum of Scotland.
Neil McDonald, the project leader and professor at the Oxford University Advanced Research Centre (ARC), said the platform can be used to showcase over 90% of the collections, which are not visible when stored.
