Int’l Securities Body IOSCO Prepares Crypto Regulation Report for 2023

The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) plans to launch a consultation for its regulation report on crypto assets in the current quarter of 2023, with final recommendations expected to be published by the end of the year. The IOSCO will focus on investor protection in both Crypto and Digital Assets (CDA) and decentralized finance (DeFi) areas of the digital market. The organization previously published reports on DeFi, stablecoins, and influencers in 2022, recommending supervisory capacities for national regulators to acquire regulatory channels to report consumer complaints and evidence-tracking processes. IOSCO urged national regulators to take a granular and holistic understanding of the DeFi market to enhance their ability to create relevant legislation. IOSCO is an association of securities and futures regulators, and its board is made up of 35 top executives from regulators such as the heads of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and the United Kingdom Financial Conduct Authority.
