NYC-based cloud computing startup CoreWeave, which began as an Ethereum mining venture, has raised $221m in a Series B funding round led by Magnetar Capital, with participation from Nvidia, former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman and ex-Apple exec Daniel Gross.
The tranche values CoreWeave at $2bn pre-money and will be used to support the company's U.S.-based data centre expansion with the opening of two new centres this year.
CoreWeave provides access to over a dozen SKUs of Nvidia GPUs in the cloud for use cases like AI and machine learning, visual effects and rendering, batch processing and pixel streaming.
