Google Ads Data: $4M Stolen Through Crypto Phishing URLs

Malicious phishing websites promoted on Google ads have stolen over $4 million from users, according to Web3 anti-scam service provider ScamSniffer. The ads prompt users to fraudulent websites that request wallet login signature requests that compromise users’ addresses. Decentralized finance protocols, websites, and brands have been targeted, with slight changes to official URLs making it difficult for users to identify malicious links. Advertisers located in Ukraine and Canada are linked to the metadata of the phishing websites. ScamSniffer estimates that scammers have spent around $15,000 on advertising, which has provided a return on their investment of 276% given the $4 million stolen to date.
