June 27 (Cointime) - Damus, a decentralized social networking app with bitcoin transaction features backed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, is set to be removed from the App Store due to non-compliance with Apple's payment guidelines. The dispute centers around Damus' tipping feature, which allows users to trade bitcoin without involving other apps and drew pushback from Apple, who takes a 30% fee for in-app purchases. Damus plans to appeal the decision, arguing that the guideline is "abused and misapplied" and that no digital content is unlocked when users are tipped. Despite friction with Apple, Damus has grown its user base to an estimated 160,000 on the Nostr platform, which has received over $5 million in backing from Dorsey.
