A recent study by DappRadar and Pacific Meta has revealed that Asia is set to dominate the Web3 gaming space, with the region already accounting for 55% of the global gaming population. The report predicts that Asia will make up 80% of all Web3 gamers, despite gaming restrictions in some countries. For example, Chinese gamers under 18 are only allowed to play for one hour a day, and blockchain games have been banned in South Korea.

However, the study points to examples such as Nexon’s MapleStory Universe and Square Enix’s upcoming Symbiogenesis as evidence that crypto games are gaining traction in the East. Both games will use Polygon, which is currently the most-preferred network for Web3 gaming from a game studio standpoint.

The study further found that the Asian market prefers the roleplay game genre the most, but that players in the region still place greater value on gameplay and initial cost than on blockchain features. The study also surveyed Japanese gamers, with 40% saying they were aware of blockchain games, and nearly 57% of those saying that Web3 games “seem interesting.”
