Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has emphasized the importance of having a varied set of “guardians” to maximize the safety of crypto asset self-custody via multisig and social recovery wallets.

A wallet named after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin spent 500 ether, or just over $700,000, over the weekend to mint the lesser-known RAI stablecoin and used the funds to purchase USD Coin (USDC) while it traded below its $1 peg.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin on Thursday warned investors to stay away from some crypto projects. The move comes a few days after he sold some free shitcoins that he received in his wallet.

On March 7, onchain observers noticed that Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, had allegedly sold billions and trillions of airdropped ERC20 tokens, resulting in a gain of an estimated $700,000 in value. The market liquidity of the airdropped tokens was shallow, and the relatively unknown ERC20 tokens plummeted in value after Buterin reportedly sold the funds.

The cryptocurrency market is known for its volatility and unpredictability, and one aspect of this is the emergence of “shitcoins” – digital tokens with little to no real-world value. Recently, there has been buzz surrounding Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s decision to sell some of these tokens, sparking speculation and discussion within the crypto community.

Researchers at the University of California San Diego will have the opportunity to dive deeper into such questions thanks to a $15 million gift made in USD coin (USDC) by the Balvi Filantropic Fund, directed by Vitalik Buterin, founder of one of the world’s leading blockchain networks, Ethereum. The gift establishes the Meta-Institute for Airborne Disease in a Changing Climate (“The Airborne Institute”) at UC San Diego.

Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin documented the continued need to improve the namesake network to better facilitate ETH as a means of payment. In one instance, Buterin shared how he tried to pay for tea for himself and friends at a coffee shop in Argentina in 2021, but had to pay 0.01 ETH (around $40 at the time) as that was the minimum deposit for the owner's exchange account. "I did not mind the 3x overpayment and treated it as a tip," the co-founder wrote. 

Ethereum co-founder, last week, arrived in Zambia for a continuation of efforts to make the Southern African nation a hub for crypto. In the company of Vicky Coleman, Yoseph Ayele, and other top Ethereum executives, Vitalik met with the special assistant to the Zambian president, Jito Kayumba, to discuss pathways for boosting crypto development in emerging markets like Zambia, and attracting investment in the state.
