On December 14th, Web3 anti-fraud service provider Scam Sniffer announced on social media that Ledger has updated its code repository to version 1.18 to remove malicious code.

Fake Ledger App on Microsoft Store Steals Over $767,000 in Crypto

Over $767,000 worth of cryptocurrency has been stolen after unsuspecting customers downloaded a fake Ledger crypto wallet management app from the Microsoft App Store. The malicious app resulted in the theft of 16.8 Bitcoin, as well as over $180,000 in Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. Microsoft has since removed the fake app from the store, but counterfeit or malicious apps have been an ongoing issue for the company. The rise in crypto hacks this year has seen cyber criminals targeting major crypto brands and wallets, including Ledger.

Ledger now launches wallet recovery solution Ledger Recover

Ledger has announced the wallet recovery solution Ledger Recover, supported by Coincover. This solution is a paid and optional subscription wallet recovery service for users who want to securely backup their recovery phrase. Ledger states that the subscription for Ledger Recover is not automatic, and users must pay the subscription fee and approve the creation of a backup on their Ledger Nano X. Currently, this feature has been rolled out to all Ledger Nano X users.

Ledger CEO: Plans to Launch Private Key Recovery Service Before the End of the Year

Pascal Gauthier, CEO of Ledger, announced that the company plans to launch its private key recovery service before the end of this year. The service aims to help users recover their private keys by splitting the mnemonic phrase into three fragments shared by Ledger, CoinCover, and EscrowTech. In May 2023, Ledger released the Nano X cold wallet 2.2.1 firmware update, which plans to introduce the Ledger Recover recovery function. This function has raised concerns among some users about privacy and security. As a result, Ledger delayed the release of the key recovery (Ledger Recover) function.
