Generative AI models such as ChatGPT have taken the technology world by storm as they threaten to permeate the mainstream. With the announcement of Bedrock, it’s clear that Amazon’s ready to go all-in just as big tech competitors Microsoft and Google have.

According to a report from the New York Times, two Google employees attempted to stop the company from launching its own AI chatbot that would rival OpenAI's ChatGPT due to concerns about inaccurate and dangerous statements. Microsoft employees and ethicists raised similar concerns prior to the release of their own AI chatbot integrated into the Bing browser. The release of these chatbots has sparked conversations about the ethics and usage of AI chatbots and image generators, and concerns have been raised about the future of society and truth. Global governments have been taking a cautious approach to the emerging technology, with Italian officials temporarily blocking ChatGPT in the country and US President Joe Biden urging tech firms to address the risks posed by AI.

Putting a temporary pause on artificial intelligence development would only hand an advantage to competitors in China, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said, after more than 1,000 researchers signed a letter warning of the consequences of moving too quickly on AI research.

In France, Google parent Alphabet Inc. is currently in talks to reduce headcount through voluntary departures, offering severance packages that it hopes are generous enough to get workers to leave, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be identified because the information isn’t public.
