The FBI has seized more than $260,000 of assets, including NFTs and cryptocurrency, according to a forfeiture document published by the agency on Feb. 4.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has seized two non-fungible tokens (NFTs) worth more than $100,000 and 86.5 Ether (ETH) from a reported phishing scammer.

The FBI announced the takedown of Hive, a ransomware network with members across multiple states in Europe and North America, in a recent press release. The US agency stated that they had been on the case since at least 2021. A high-profile example of this attack would be the encryption of the Costa Rican healthcare service’s computers during the spring of 2022, with Hive requesting $5 million in Bitcoin in exchange for decryption.

The U.S. Justice Department announced Thursday the results of a months-long operation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation that actively disrupted the activities of the Hive ransomware group, which the agency says had targeted hospitals, schools, and banking in over 80 countries.

There has been an upward trend in the number of crypto investigations conducted and publicly disclosed by U.S. federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies.

U.S. authorities have arrested the former chief technology officer and co-founder of Blockparty, a blockchain events startup, for allegedly stealing over $1 million of crypto and fiat from the firm. 

The FBI is in talks with Bahamian authorities to extradite the 30-year-old crypto founder.
