Hector Network's Governance Dilemma: Can DAOs Beat the Corporate Status Quo?

Hector Network, a decentralized finance project, is facing a governance dilemma as it considers a proposal to wrap itself within an offshore corporate structure that includes directors, supervisors, and a management board. This proposal, known as HIP 40, has been met with skepticism from many HEC token holders who fear it will dilute their influence over how Hector runs. The project's lawyer, Dali from the tech law firm Sparring, argues that a professional organization run and managed by people with expertise in specific areas is necessary for success in business. He believes that HIP 40 will provide the necessary legal wrapper and allow Hector to be a reliable partner to non-Web3-native companies.

Arbitrum Foundation's Governance Drama Leads to Greater Community Control

The Arbitrum Foundation caused controversy when it transferred funds from Arbitrum DAO without community approval, but CEO and co-founder of Offchain Labs, Steven Goldfeder, sees this as a necessary step towards decentralization. In March, the foundation proposed transferring 750 million ARB tokens worth $1 billion to its own wallets, but before the DAO could vote on the proposal, the foundation sent the majority of the tokens to itself. The community voted against the move, prompting the foundation to propose expanding ARB token holders' oversight of the budget and voting powers. The community approved proposals addressing the ARB tokens moved to the foundation's wallet and amendments to the DAO's governance, constitution, and bylaws. Goldfeder believes that the events ultimately led to greater transparency and community control, demonstrating that the DAO is in control.

Researchers Propose New Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) Voting Scheme Combining Best Features of Existing Methods

Researchers at the Singapore University of Social Sciences have evaluated existing decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) voting schemes and found that a new paradigm combining the best features of each would be more efficient than the current popular voting schemes. The team's paper, "Voting Schemes in DAO Governance," analyzes eight current techniques for DAO governance and assesses their perceived strengths and weaknesses.

Arca Calls on Aragon to Conduct Buybacks of ANT Token in Open Letter

Arca, a cryptocurrency investment fund, has urged DAO builder Aragon to conduct buybacks of its ANT token in an open letter. The letter, written by researcher Alex Woodard, called for Aragon to continue the buybacks to return ANT to book value. This comes amidst a fight between Aragon and a group of activist investors critical of project leadership. Arca's vow to work with other tokenholders could add fuel and momentum to the activist effort.
