WSJ: Binance founder Changpeng Zhao agrees to resign and pleads guilty

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the CEO of Binance plans to resign and has admitted to violating US anti-money laundering criminal requirements. This move may allow the company to continue operating.

Zhao Changpeng stated in a post on X platform that an executive of a client was lured to Montenegro on a business trip, where he was kidnapped and forced to empty his wallet, resulting in a total loss of about $12.5 million. Binance investigated the on-chain activities and contacted its partners to freeze the wallet earlier today, as all funds were transferred in USDT to a Tron wallet. About $11.8 million of the frozen $12.5 million has been successfully frozen. Previously, it was reported that a Tron address with a balance of more than 11.86 million USDT was frozen.
