Bitstamp Earns In-Principle Approval for Digital Payment Token Services in Singapore

Bitstamp, a European cryptocurrency exchange, has received in-principle regulatory approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for its Major Payment Institution (MPI) license. This will allow Bitstamp to offer digital payment token services in Singapore. Bitstamp is the first crypto exchange with a major European Union presence to secure in-principle approval in Singapore. The exchange will focus on serving financial institutions and intermediaries, such as payments processors, fintechs and brokerages. South Korean firm Upbit was the last crypto exchange to obtain full licensing in Singapore, which was awarded its MPI license in January.

Bitstamp denies Glassnode’s claim that it lost 38% of its Bitcoin reserves

According to a post by Bitstamp on the X platform, Glassnode mistakenly stated that Bitstamp lost 38% of its Bitcoin reserves in a data set, when in fact the net outflow was only 1%. Previously, on November 22nd, cryptocurrency exchange Bitcoin outflows reached $600 million, mainly from two platforms, Binance and Bitstamp. After an agreement was signed between the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Binance, Binance experienced an outflow of about 8,000 Bitcoins, equivalent to nearly $288 million. Bitstamp experienced another significant drop, losing approximately 16,500 Bitcoins, with 24,000 BTC remaining, accounting for 38% of the outflow. (Cryptoslate)

Bitstamp to Discontinue Services in Canada in 2024, Urges Customers to Withdraw Funds

Bitstamp, a crypto exchange, has announced that it will cease its services in Canada from January 8, 2024. All Canadian accounts will be closed and customers will no longer have access to their accounts. Bitstamp's U.S. CEO and Global Chief Commercial Officer, Bobby Zagotta, has urged customers to withdraw their funds by the January date.
