UniSat Wallet, open source chrome extension for Bitcoin Ordinals & brc-20, has announced that it has temporarily suspended access to its marketplace due to double-spend attacks that took place shortly after its launch. In a series of tweets, the company explained that during testing last week, it simulated different approaches to double-spend attacks and made improvements to the code. However, certain problems were still exposed in the initial public version, which resulted in 70 out of 383 transactions being affected by the attacks.
UniSat has stated that it will compensate users who have been affected by the incident for their losses and has asked users to open a ticket on its Discord server and provide as much relevant information as possible about the transactions involved. The company has also assured users that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection and consolidation of the issues that have been exposed, and will update users on the subsequent service opening time.
UniSat acknowledged that the brc-20 is still very young and that there have been numerous issues identified and resolved in the past 30 days. The company, as the first brc-20 wallet provider and the first marketplace provider, is constantly facing numerous issues and moving forward with full support.
While the incident may cause inconvenience to UniSat users, it is a reminder that new technologies and platforms may still have vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. UniSat's response to the incident, including its commitment to compensating affected users and conducting a comprehensive inspection, should serve as an example for other companies in the industry to take responsibility for the security of their platforms and the protection of their users.
