OpenAI announces the gradual rollout of plugins in ChatGPT, in line with their iterative deployment philosophy.
"Plugins are tools designed specifically for language models with safety as a core principle, and help ChatGPT access up-to-date information, run computations, or use third-party services." OpenAI explained on official website.
The initial rollout is limited to a small set of users, and OpenAI plans to expand access as they learn more about the integration of plugins. OpenAI aims to build a community that will shape the future of the human-AI interaction paradigm.
Plugin developers who have been invited from the waitlist can build a plugin for ChatGPT using the provided documentation. The enabled plugins are listed in the prompt shown to the language model, along with documentation that instructs the model how to use each plugin.
The first plugins have been created by several companies, including Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier.
