Speaking at the Hong Kong Fintech Week 2022 event, Yi Gang, Governor of the People’s Bank of China, said that designing the CBDC is maintaining financial security while protecting personal privacy through a “two-tier operation” and “controlled anonymity” approach. The PBC is currently working with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and other monetary authorities on the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), hoping to better serve the needs of domestic and international markets and help boost Hong Kong’s status as a global financial center. 

Yi Gang also stated that they are prepared to intensify our collaboration on CBDC with monetary authorities and international organizations in the near future.
