Novel Labs and Mutant Cartel founder Lior Messika is set to develop Serum City, a city-builder game that uses Ethereum and ApeCoin as its primary in-game currency. Mutant Apes, Bored Ape Yacht, Genesis Oath, or Mutant Hound NFT collections owners are required to play the game at launch, with Serum City gradually opening access with each new season of content.
The Serum City is set in a dystopian world where bored apes are the ruling class and Mutant Apes relegated to the fringes of society for consuming the serum. Serum City will continue and expand upon Messika's Mutant Cartel Expanded Universe, developed through comic strips and short video clips over the past 18 months, exploring the main storyline of Blaksoot and Darkfang.
Novel Labs is working with Faraway, developer of the Solana-based game Mini Royale: Nations, to create the NFT-based Serum City, which will support interoperability for its assets.
Serum City aims to offer players a richer and more engaging play experience by encouraging them to create their game assets and buy lightweight in-game currencies like gems with ApeCoin. Serum City is set to launch in August and could support the interoperable exchange of assets with Novel Labs games in the future via the Faraway Developer Platform.
