Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been criticized as overpriced JPEGs, but believers argue that they have real use cases. Efforts to integrate NFTs into mainstream applications are underway, such as Twitter allowing users to authenticate their NFT profiles for a fee. South Korean messaging giant Kakao Investment has invested $2 million into GoodGang Labs, which enables users to interact through animated avatars and soon NFTs.
GoodGang's proprietary communications platform, Kiki Town, allows users to interact as avatars and conserves valuable network resources while enhancing privacy. The startup was founded by veterans from Facebook, Line, and augmented reality startup Seerslab, and has received investments from Naver and Naver Z.
