The European Investment Bank (EIB) has issued a €100 million ($120 million) bond on the Ethereum blockchain, in collaboration with Credit Agricole, SEB, and Santander. The two-year digital bond will be settled and redeemed using blockchain technology, with the EIB acting as the issuer and Credit Agricole, SEB, and Santander serving as joint lead managers.
The bond is the EIB's second blockchain-based bond issuance, following a €100 million bond issued in 2020 in collaboration with Goldman Sachs. The EIB's move towards blockchain-based bonds is part of a wider trend in the financial industry towards the digitization of traditional financial instruments.
