A new Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) has been introduced by developers, which allows nonfungible tokens (NFTs) to have their own smart contract account. This enables them to store other NFTs or crypto tokens.
The authors of EIP-6551, Jayden Windle and Benny Giang, explained that this new mechanic has potential use cases in blockchain gaming, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and airdropping assets into NFTs. Additionally, it can bring social identity into NFTs, making them more than just assets to buy, sell or trade. The new mechanic is already live on the Ethereum mainnet and has been applied to an NFT collection called Sapienz.
