Jameson Lopp, Co-founder and CTO of Bitcoin wallet provider Casa, has stated that the demand for Ethereum self-custody solutions is growing as users seek secure ways to store their Ethereum and Ethereum tokens. Lopp revealed that some Casa clients suffered losses due to the collapse of FTX in 2022, which raised awareness of the need for secure storage methods. In response, Casa added Ethereum support in December, despite criticism from some enthusiasts on social media.
Lopp acknowledged that self-custody can be intimidating, but Casa is simplifying the process and baking best practices into their product. The Casa service offers an extreme-security cold-storage setup with distributed keys and has expanded its offerings to include a free version with limited features.
As the crypto user base has grown, some wallet providers are attempting to make self-custody simpler and more accessible to entice more users to take control of their crypto assets.
