Ethereum Classic rises 25% after Coinbase listing news
Coinbase has announced the support of Ethereum Classic (ETC) on their crypto-exchange platform, causing the price to surge over 25% within the hour.
Coinbase currently supports four of the biggest cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC). According to the Coinbase announcement, ETC will be added to the repertoire soon but the exact date will be announced when the final phase of technical integration is finalized.
“[W]e will now begin the engineering work (Step 4) for supporting Ethereum CLassic. As part of this process, customers can expect to see public-facing APIs and other signs that the asset is being added. When we reach the final testing phase of the technical integration, which we expect to occur over the next few months, we will publicly announce a launch date for trading via our blog and twitter (Step 5).”
Ethereum Classic spawned from the 2016 hard fork that arose when developers that did not agree with the Ethereum changes built the altcoin. This announcement comes shortly after Coinbase released its intent to integrate ERC20 tokens onto their exchange. Coinbase states that adding ERC20 tokens onto the platform will foster the asset integration across all Coinbase products.
